Any trip into the backcountry can have its moments. A broken tent pole is no exception. Most of the time, the manufacturer will supply you with at least one pole split with the purchase of a new tent.
So, what if that new tent didn't come with a splint? What can you do? Well, for starters, there's always the duct tape when in a bind trick. This method will typically still need some type of splint, however. You can use a tent peg or even an aluminum can, secured by the tape.
As an alternative, after market splints can be purchased to carry along with you either individually or as part of repair kit.
