IP Numbers
An Internet Protocol ("IP") address is a set of numbers that is automatically assigned to your computer each time you connect to the Internet. When you use your Web browser to request a Web page on the Internet, your Web browser automatically gives that computer your IP address so that the data you request can be sent to your computer. When accessing the internet via a dial-up connection, the IP address will be different every time you log on. In some instances, a broadband internet service provider may issue users a static IP address.
